About the Mentor

Andrew Liu is the founder and Managing Director of Guardian USA, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and original design manufacturer (ODM) of garage doors components and operators, headquartered in Richardson, Texas. Guardian USA has five regional locations across the county and an R&D team in Mexico. Prior to founding Guardian USA, Andrew began his tenure at Guardian Shanghai Corp. in 2007 as the International Sales Manager and was responsible for the Australia and New Zealand market. Under his leadership, sales in the region grew to US$10m within three years. Guardian remains the leading supplier to garage door OEMs in Australia and New Zealand. Andrew established Guardian USA in 2011 with a customer-centric approach that focuses on bringing the best possible user experience. He built a robust sales and operations team that serves North American garage door manufacturers, national garage door distributors, and door dealers. Under his leadership, Andrew pivoted the company towards future growth areas focusing on integrating IoT solutions into existing product lines and direct-to-consumer products. This transformation started with the acquisition of Garageio in 2018, an IoT startup that developed a device and mobile app that monitors and controls garage doors. Garageio was among the first startups in Amazon’s Alexa venture fund. Consequently, Andrew quickly scaled up the innovation side of the business by establishing an R&D Center in Mexico to support new product development. In 2020, Andrew established Beam Labs LLC. by leveraging 30 years of garage door development experience to create a new line of garage door openers emphasizing simplicity, convenience, and security. The Beam product line was later launched with Amazon Alexa API as a partner in 2021 and sold through established retailers such as Amazon, Home Depot, and Lowes. Andrew has invested over $40m of his money into private equity, real estate, and development projects and recently relocated to Singapore to set up an SFO to leverage the favorable investment regulatory environment and Singapore’s strong financial infrastructure. Throughout his life, Andrew has been a serial entrepreneur and curiosity for knowledge to develop personal growth. He sees himself as adventurous and welcomes new challenges. Andrew spent his early years between Vancouver, Canada, and Taipei, Taiwan. He earned his BA in Economics at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
